The problem
Creators built audiences on platforms that owned the payment relationship, took a third, and would not export an email address.Creators were building audiences on platforms that owned the payment relationship, took a third of it, and would not export an email address. Moving meant starting again.
What we did
Subscription billing, tiers and member management on the creator's own domain and Stripe account, with multi-currency payouts from day one.We built subscription billing, tiers and member management around the creator's own domain and their own Stripe account. Multi-currency payouts and tax handling were in the first release, because a creator with an international audience discovers those on day one, not in year two.
The result
Creators keep the relationship and most of the revenue, and six month retention is nearly three times what they left behind.Creators keep the relationship and most of the revenue, and six month retention is nearly three times what they saw on the platform they left.
Owning the member list changed how we thought about the business. It stopped being a channel and started being a company.
