The problem
Campaigns ran out of a form builder, a spreadsheet and a mail tool that did not know about each other. The same supporter got asked twice and thanked never.Fundraising teams were running campaigns out of a form builder, a spreadsheet and a mail tool that did not know about each other. Donor history lived in whichever export was most recent, so the same supporter got asked twice and thanked never.
What we did
One donor record with branded giving, recurring gifts and automated follow-up around it. Reporting shipped in the first release, not after it.We built one donor record and put everything around it: branded donation experiences, recurring giving, and automated follow-up written by a model that reads the campaign rather than a template. Reporting was in the first release, because a fundraising team that cannot see results cannot plan the next campaign.
The result
Recurring donors more than doubled in two quarters, and the between-campaign work now happens without anyone opening the tool.Recurring donors more than doubled in the first two quarters, and the work that used to happen between campaigns now happens without anyone opening the tool. The team runs more campaigns with the same people.
They shipped the first usable version in six weeks, and every release after that landed when they said it would. That is not what we were used to.
